For first-time home buyers in Melbourne, Australia, there are a few house loan choices available. One choice is the First Home Owner Grant which is a one-time grant made by the government to assist Australians in purchasing their first property.
To be eligible for the First Home Owner Grant, you must:
- be at least 18 years of age
- be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia
- have never owned a property in Australia
- occupy the home as your principal place of residence within 6 months of settlement
- and other state-specific criteria
If you are buying or building a new home valued up to $750,000, you may be eligible for a First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) of $10,000 in Victoria*.
